John Mountain Cup

Every year the RBYC holds its flagship event

"The John Mountain Challenge Cup"

It was established to test core seamanship skills for Skippers, Mates and their Crews. It's competitive, fun, exhausting and probably the best event of the year!  It is a bit like a treasure hunt on water, getting to places, completing a challenge and tackling tasks en-route.

There are two shiny cups to be won - Best Boat & Best Skipper and it is possible for a boat and skipper to win both awards, it has been done only three times before!

A club member can only be Skipper just twice giving ample opportunity for new up and coming Skippers to

have a stab at the challenge.

   JMC 2012
JMC 2012 is completed. The tasks started Friday night with some mystery buoys in the Solent and a overnight in Southampton Town quay - which was new to many.

Saturday morning involved tying knots in spaghetti, and going aground in creeks - Power station and Wootton.

Saturday afternoon we found buried treasure, drew a weather chart and then it became very very foggy. Luckily all the boats eventually found their way to to Royal Solent yacht club where we enjoyed an excellent meal.

Sunday we all climbed the mast, then it was a series of tricky sailing tasks before the award ceremony at East Cowes
