A long weekend trying out the sailing in the Dartmouth area. Dartmouth harbour is beautiful and the surrounding waters are stunning. We will charter from Dartmouth which will allow us to explore the stunning West Coast.

You should consider taking Thursday afternoon off as well as the Monday to ensure you take full advantage of the weekend, although its not essential.

Registration is needed by the end of March for this trip.

Yateley Offshore Sailing Club Quiz Night (11 Jun 2012)

Come and pit your wits at a quiz night evening organised by Yateley Offshore Sailing Club.

The quiz will be in two parts: one featuring sailing related questions and the other general knowledge. There is no entry charge but there are prizes up for grabs and they are also providing nibbles and a cash bar.

Teams comprise six players and it would be great if we could muster at least two teams. The quiz starts at 8pm and is expected to finish at around 10.

We have set this up as an event on the website so you can register your attendance in the usual way. We need to notify Yateley how many teams we are providing so registration will close on Thursday 31st May.

The Tall Ships Youth Trust is one of the chosen RBYC Charities for 2012.

The RBYC Committee have agreed to publicise this TSYT event but are NOT organising any part of it.

The cost is £249 for the long weekend and open to anyone 18-75

Sunny skies, warm turquoise waters, cooling breezes, deserted anchorages and tranquil bays are what you'll find as you sail the southern coast of Turkey. Combined with the warmth and sincerity of the people, spectacular scenery, fascinating ruins from previous civilizations and delicious food - who could ask for more!

We are sailing from Gocek on a one way passage to Marmaris.

A deposit of £150 is required to secure your space on this trip and the full cost is expected to be £420. This includes transfers from & to the airport in Turkey.

This trip needs to be booked by the end of January 2012 in order to secure the best price for the boats.

You will need to book your own flight to Dalaman and we recommend you do this early to get the best prices.

Join us on what may well be the most spectacular and exciting weekend of the year for sailing in the Solent.

We couldn't let the Olympics pass us by without doing something to celebrate it. The RYA are running a weekend to encourage sailors out on the water so we have registered to join in!

Saturday 21^st July is the last day of the J Class regatta. These stunning yachts are evocative of the era between the wars when some of the wealthiest people in the world commissioned vessels that pushed the boundaries of sailing technology and can still amaze and set pulses racing. The J Class Association hopes that for the first time in history more than 4 of these yachts will race together in a fleet.

On the day they will be racing from the RYS line off Cowes, and will race over the original clockwise course around the Isle of Wight, for the 1851 Hundred Guinea Cup Race, which is now known as the “America’s Cup”.

Sunday will see the Clipper Round the World fleet return home to Ocean Village after the final stage of their epic race which started on 31^st July 2011.

The boats will be chartered from Fairview.

The trip is expected to cost around £200. A deposit of £40 is required to secure your place on this trip.

Want to 'have a go' at being a skipper but don't want the stress of doing so on the John Mountain Cup? Or fancy doing the JM Cup and want to get in some practice?

Not confident enough to go it alone so want some practice with the back up of one of our club skippers being in the back ground?

Or want to put into practice the navigation exercises you have been learning - with or without a GPS?

This weekend is set up to give you the chance to be skipper (either the whole weekend or a part of depending on numbers wanting to do it).

Its a training weekend so you can learn tips and get assistance from our club skippers who will be on board.

The cost of the full trip will be £170. Boats will be chartered from Firstaway.

A deposit of £40 is required to secure your space on this trip.

Spinnaker Training for cruising sailors - Reserve list (29 Sep 2012)

A weekend to unlock the mysteries of flying a spinnaker. The weekend will be aimed at flying spinnakers for cruisers rather than for racing.

We are working with Sailing Logic to provide you with a very experienced and expert spinnaker trainer/skipper for the weekend. We will be on one of their Reflex 38s which are very basic.

Sailing Logic are well respected in the industry and won 'Best School boat', amoungst many others, in the RORC championships this year for their performance in racing. And their crews are all like - some novice & some more experienced.

A deposit of £50 is required to secure your space on this trip and the full cost is expected to be £190 which will include a continental breakfast and lunch. We will need to confirm spaces by the end of February for this trip.

Please note the boat is a stripped out racing boat so don't expect luxury below or a cabin, however the positive is that the boats sail beautifully and will demonstrate well the spinnaker & sail trim.

The John Mountain Challenge Cup - Deposit (19 Oct 2012)

Each year the RBYC holds its flag ship event - "The John Mountain Challenge Cup". It was established to test core seamanship skills for skippers, mates and their crews. It's competitive, fun, exhausting usually wet, frustrating, argumentative, and probably the best event of the year!

And yes there are two cups to be won - Best Boat & Best Skipper.

Are you up for the challenge?

The cost of the full trip will be around £220 depending on final numbers and a T Shirt will be provided to mark the event. The boats will be chartered from Fairview.

A deposit of £50 is required to secure your place on this trip.

This event is only open for Full Members and it would be great if you could get away from the office a little earlier than the published time of 7pm for this trip although not essential.

Charity Regatta sponsored by Tall Ships Youth Trust

This weekend is run by the Tall Ships Youth trust & is a charity event to raise money. It is run by Sunsail in Port Solent and would involve two yacht races on Saturday & two races on Sunday.

Hard work, cold, tiring with probably lots of shouting but great fun.

There is a charity gala dinner in Cowes on the Saturday evening.

The cost of the event is expected to be £210 which includes a ticket for the gala dinner in Cowes on Saturday evening. A deposit of £40 is required to secure your place.

RYA First Aid Course (24 Nov 2012)

RYA First Aid Course

Duration 1 Day

Instructors: Peter and Carol-Anne Pocock Starlight Coaching.

The club has used the Pocock's for a number of years and they have a very broad experience of sailing and first aid and give a really good days training.

They have always been praised by attendees of previous courses as particularly knowledgeable trainers.

Member Cost: £65

Non Member Cost: £75 (This includes 6 months temporary membership)

This RYA course is designed to teach attendees all aspects of first aid on a yacht. Whilst hopefully most of us are unlikely to finish up in a liferaft at sea most of us are likely to have to administer some kind of first aid when sailing. The course is broad ranging but particularly useful in covering the life threatening events that can occur on a boat like how to deal with an unconscious casualty, heart attacks,hypothermia etc.

If you sail regularly you should have your first aid up to date. (RYA First Aid only lasts 3 years)

If you are a Day skipper or Coastal skipper you must have your first aid up to date.

You will need to bring your lunch, notepad and pen.
